Let’s just get this out there: every fashionista dreams of this time of the year. There is nothing better than an excuse to dress up. Company parties, ugly sweater parties, New Year’s Eve parties… it’s time to put those party pants on!… Literally.
So today I am encouraging you to really play up the festivities and have fun with your holiday attire. Think about all that surrounds us this time of year and bring it into your wardrobe. There are a number of small ways that you can do this with your accessories and many items you may already have! Need some ideas? That’s what I’m here for, people!
Sparkle and Shine
Metallics, sequins and glitter, oh my! They are everywhere and my biggest obsession. Not only are they all over my house, but they are my current favorite nail trend. I am also a sucker for any clothing item covered in sequins.
On repeat: Julep Maven Linnea and Makenna
Recent purchase: HM Navy Sequin Skirt. Picked this little number out for our New Year’s Eve themed Save the Date pics.
Wish listed: OPI Alpine Snow Polish with sparkle top coat
Cheese up the Cute Factor
I will happily admit that I think Christmas themed tops and accessories are absolutely adorable. Be careful with this one, though. There is definitely a line that can be crossed from cutesy Christmas to ugly sweater status.
On repeat: Target Cheetah Print Santa Hat
Recent purchase: M.E. & You Fa La La shirt
Wish listed: ILY Couture NOEL Sweatshirt
Make a statement with some Cozy Fur… FAUX-REAL
Hints of faux fur really scream “winter sassafrass” or as I like to call it, Fashionable Bad Ass. It’s basically the winter version of the leather jacket. A little over the top, but with the right attitude any gal can pull that look off. Notice I said HINTS of fur… don’t be going all werewolf on me. I refuse to take credit for encouraging that. 🙂
On repeat: Sorel Joan of Arctic Snow Boots. 3 words: warmest. boots. ever.
Recent purchase: North Face Nitchie Vest (This is my Christmas present from Mike that is currently on its way to our house to be wrapped and put under the tree next to his present that he picked out for himself. We decided to skip the surprises this year. I may or may not already be envisioning outfits with this beauty. SO versatile.)
Wish listed: BHLDN cropped fur jacket. Ever since we decided on a winter wedding I have been on the hunt for a gorgeous white fur coat to wear over my wedding dress. While the fur may be fake, the price point for this style sure isn’t! I will most likely end up renting a coat for the occasion, but a girl can dream- right!?
Put a Bow on it
Christmas presents are not the only thing that can look cute when topped off with a bow. You can easily look festive by adding a simple Christmas bow to your hair like my girl Jessica did for a friend’s Christmas party a few years back. There are also so many cute outfit ensembles that add a little feminine touch with the style of a bow.
On repeat: Target Cream Blouse
Recent Purchase: Christmas bows from target. Yep- just in the wrapping section. These will come in handy to spice up some up coming ugly sweater parties!
Wish listed: HM sequin top
Bring out your inner Ballerina
The Nutcracker should inspire at least one outfit in your closet. I’m talking baby pink, sparkles, and lots of TULLE! While I do love a good classy and sexy party look, every girl likes to have a night where she gets dolled up and feels a bit like a princess.
Recent Purchase (and soon to be on repeat): After months of looking around for the perfect tulle skirt that wasn’t crazy over budget, I finally found THE ONE at Charlotte Russe of all places! Best part: it comes in multiple adorable colors. That’s right, every woman can relive her little girl dreams of dressing in tutus on a daily basis. I am so in love with this trend.
On repeat: Chiffon pastel pink dress from Victoria’s Secret. Such a good find for weddings and holiday parties. I made this purchase about 2 years ago and it’s still a go-to for me. The ruffles get me every time.
Wish listed: Tulle maxi skirt from Lulu’s. I admit it, I am hooked on the tulle! There is just something a little more classy about the maxi look, rather than the knee length skirt, don’t ya think?
What are you waiting for? Be bold- sparkle it up- and when it doubt throw a bow on it!
