Craftin’ in her winter wonder-glam…
I take no responsibility for how over the top I am during this next month of blog posts. It’s Christmas time and I am over the moon with happiness. Listening to Christmas music while getting ready in the morning and on long work drives, wrapping presents extra early, finding every excuse to do more Christmas crafts, putting decorations every where I can manage, and watching ABC Family’s 25 days of Christmas! So. much. happiness.
I started off my Christmas decorating frenzy with our fireplace of course. What’s the most wonderful time of the year without a cozy fire? With a near obsession of anything that sparkles, I decided to really jazz up our Christmas decor with all that glitters!
With out further adieu, here is my take on some winter wonder-glam decor.
The Grinch (the Jim Carrey version of course) is one of my favorite Christmas movies ever. While looking through Pinterest last month, I kept seeing the cutest signs with quotes from the Grinch on them, so I decided to make my own to go along with the glam decor I had in mind.
After selecting which quote I wanted, I went to the craft store and picked out a large canvas (which came in a pack of 2) and 2 different font options of removable vinyl letters. I then picked out some silver and gold metallic spray paint, and white spray paint for the top coat of the sign.
I spray painted 2 stripes of each color on the canvas. The thought process behind this was to have the words in the quote appear in different colors. I honestly wasn’t sure how it was going to turn out, but was really happy with the end product.
After I got started on the canvas, I realized that the letters I had purchased were too big to fit the entire Grinch quote on them. I was then very thankful that I had purchased 2 canvases! Gotta love a good plan B. I decided to split the quote in half, so I spaced out the vinyl letters on the first canvas and then spray painted the entire canvas white and let it sit over night.
After seeing the final product of the first canvas (yay!) I went to work on the second one. I then used Elmer’s spray glue to add a few snowflakes that I picked up in the scrap booking section at the craft store as well as a little gold glitter (of course).
This is the final product up on our mantle. 🙂
Once the canvases were done, it was all about working around them with anything that was adorable, silver and gold. Let me tell you that was a pretty easy feat this particular season. There are metallic Christmas decorations EVERYWHERE!
I also spray painted some string lights with the gold spray paint I had to give a little “glam” to my Christmas lights lining the fireplace.
Just make sure that you stuff the light sockets with paper towel pieces so that you don’t damage the lights when you are spray painting them.
I found this awesome idea from the Landeelu Blog here.
Here is the final product of what our Christmas mantle looks like!!! I am in love.
A lot of what you see comes from my Target problem. The white mitten garland, glitter tree and gold pine cones and vase were all finds from last year. The Noel marquee sign was purchased on sale at Target this year, as well as the deer with the fur collar (how could I say no to that?) and the gold and white chevron stocking holders were found in the DOLLAR SECTION… that’s right, in their dollar section. Never underestimate the powers of Target during the holidays.
A close up of the NOEL sign:
I ordered our personlized stockings from The Personalization Mall during their Black Friday sale and picked them up 50% off. I had had my eye on them since the beginning of November. They are constantly sending me emails with other sales as well. I will probably use them for future personalized gifts because they have some great deals and the products seem to be pretty good quality. Plus they look so snazzy!
For those of you that saw my Fall mantle, you’ll notice that I also swapped out my harvest themed flower arrangement for some silver and gold poinsettas and branches. I always pick up my floral arrangement pieces from Jo Ann Fabrics and wait for some major coupons (which happen every other week). I snagged that ribbon at 70% off for 2 bucks. I really like to brag about my bargain finds!
That’s not all for the Christmas decor, folks! We are picking out our Christmas tree this weekend, and finishing up my favorite DIY project yet for the outdoor Christmas decorations as well so next week will be chockful of more holiday excitement over here at Sugar and Sass. And don’t you worry, there is more Christmas rhyming and singing where that came from…
…Oh what fun it is to write in a cheery and Christmas way, HEY!
